In this blog Jo Bibby cites evidence that shows shared decision making is effective against a range of outcomes. 

She argues that it could provide a much needed stimulus to reposition the relationship between society and healthcare, to create more realistic expectations of what is possible, and the roles and responsibilities we must all play in improving health.
