This blog argues that whilst creating an environment in a consultation where a person with long-term health conditions feels supported in their self-management is essential, there is an element of their confidence and well-being which can’t be developed from interactions with clinicians alone.

The blog sets out the importance of the other wall of the House of Care - empowering patients, which it argues, should be done through structured support groups which offer people with long-term health conditions the opportunity to share the expertise that they have gained through living with their conditions.
