High quality care for all: NHS Next Stage Review final report
The final report of Lord Darzi’s NHS Next Stage Review. It responds to the 10 SHA strategic visions and sets out a vision for an NHS with quality at its heart.
Lord Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review was a key articulation of the previous government's plans for NHS reform. Published in 2008, it set out the government’s plans for NHS reform in England for the next ten years. Its principal focus was on driving up the standards of quality in health care and putting clinicians at the heart of change
The report set out that patients with complex long-term conditions are to be entitled to a named care co-ordinator, such as a community matron, to help them access the services in their personal care plans. Personal budgets for health care, similar to those available in social care, were piloted among 5,000 patients with chronic conditions in 2009.
