Through interviews with almost 40 shared decision making experts in the UK and overseas, this report examines the various barriers that can inhibit the implementation of shared decision making and identifies a number of practical factors to consider.

This report finds that patients who have experienced shared decision making are overwhelmingly positive. It found that key barriers to implenting shared decision making include culture and attitudes, resouces and time pressures, and systems and incentives.
