The case study sets out the framework for evaluation and reports on its findings, including key challenges. The research showed broad support for shared decision making at CCG level and widespread promotion of patient involvement initiatives. Clinicians involved in the case study demonstrated a theoretical appetite for shared decision making but largely felt that they were already involving patients fully in decisions about their treatment. Patient response to the concept of shared decision making and patient decision aids was generally positive.
